Cabin Fever - 2008 Northwest Rd 1

Last weekend was the 1st race of the 2008 season and it was held in the Northwest. Yes it was indoor! It was in the 30's most of the weekend with a lot of nasty white stuff all over the ground but the racers still came out!

2008 Schedule

Sun Dec 30, 2007 7:21PM

The 2008 schedule is posted (has been posted for a couple days).

I've had one email to let me know several people like it and several are complaining. So let me explain several things.

We added a new division in the Ohio, eastern Indiana, Michigan, northern Kentucky and western Pennsylvania area called the Great Lakes division.
WHY?
#1. The Midwest division just covers too much area. It extended from St. Louis east to West Virginia and North to the Canadian border. Some years the distance between some events was 10 hours. We tried rotating to different sides of the division (east& west) but this left out the northern part of the division.
#2. The majority of the midwest attendance since the division was started has been from the Illinois, Missouri and Indiana racers. When there are events in the Ohio area we get good attendance from those racers and the West Virginia racers. The best example of that is Dirt Country last year.
So by splitting the Midwest into two divisions we can utilize more of the good tracks in and around Ohio. We are constantly looking at tracks we have been told about for possible future races. For this 1st year of this new division we wanted the majority of the tracks to be experienced RC Pro tracks. We all know Steve King has the experience no matter what track he uses. Also Doug McCullough and his crew put on an excellent event last year and proved they really know how to run an event. The 3rd track being Stateline doesn't have the RC Pro experience but the guy running the track do have RC Pro experience so they know what needs to be done.
We feel the new division has the right tracks to get it rolling. We will be looking at more tracks that we can work into a rotation in this division for 2009.

The Midwest Division. Now that we have shrunk this division it will be easier in 2009 to look at tracks farther north as well as other nice tracks that have gone in recently and are gaining large race experience with State Series and other events. Some people question a race at Leisure Hours this year. Bernie and Scott were not in the rotation last year but when Hardesty's closed they stepped up to cover the race for us. We don't feel that should be held against them so they have a race in 2008. We have started making lists for 2009 tracks already and as we go through the year the  info we gain on the tracks we think would be good will be used to determine that schedule.
There are a lot of GOOD tracks in this area of the country but also the racers are very demanding about what they feel a track should do at an event so it takes a good amount of talking to racers and track operators to determine what new tracks we use.

The South. The issue we have with this division which is basicly Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana is the shear size of it. In 2006 Johnny Cool Guy (DFW) was out of the rotation. This year Houston is out of the rotation. Since RC Pro started both of those area have had a race as has OKC. It's a very tough decision to not put one of those 3 in the rotation for a year but the South like every other division has a number of experienced tracks that can handle an event. Austin, Houston, Dallas, OKC, Amarillo, Bossier City and Harlingen all have tracks capable of hosting a series event. The tough part is trying NOT to make it just a Texas series. We need atleast to have an event in 2 of the states in the division.

The East. Like every division this one is large especially with Florida included. We looked at a race in Alabama but due to the distances to the other tracks and the cost of travel right now we felt a minimum 7 hour drive wasn't good this year. We will be going back to Sumter this year per the deal that was made in 2006 to rotate between Sumter and Badlands. We will also be going to Avon Park this year instead of Lake Park. As far as the area west of Georgia we really need a division between Georgia and Louisiana that will extend into Tennessee and will be looking at that possibly for 2009. We also need a division from Maryland south to North Carolina.

We just have to be carefull of how many divisions and races we add at a time. Part of the problem is every track and most of the racers wants me to be there but there are only so many weekends in a year that we can actually schedule races on either because of weather or trying to work around annual events. We already have to shcedule more than one event on some weekends now.

The Northeast. Last year we had Pittsburgh in this division. The drive for that event was a long one. Based on talks with some of the racers in the Connecticut area and their advise that Buffalo is closer than Pittsburgh we went that direction this year. 2009 we need to move farther south with this division and start doing some rotation.

The North. Much the same tracks as last year except for the Lincoln track this year instead of the Omaha track. This was an understanding we had last year between these two tracks. I'm learning about nice tracks in this division and will be looking at some rotation possibilities for 2009.

The West. As you can see there is no schedule for them yet. This is one of the toughest divisions to set a shcedule for because of all the other events going on during the year. So instead of hold up the schedule while working on this division we posted the schedule we have.

The Northwest. Again a tough division to schedule races in because of other events. We are working on this to see just how to fit our events in. The 1st race this year is the Cabin Fever race in February. The entries are already approaching 100 and it's over a month away.

2008 Finals. Based on several things we have decided to hold the finals at the Diamond W Arena again in 2008. We have had several people searching for venues to have the finals on the east coast since mid year. The problem is several nice venues have been found but none in the right price range. We already found out a $3000 a day venues doesn't work (Rockford). On top of this we had so many racers from the Midwest, North and Northeast suggest at the 2007 Finals we come back to the same venue for 2008. There are some positives for using the same place again. We have more knowledge about what to expect at this venue now and know what we need to do to have a better event. We know it's a perfect venue for what we are doing. Although the weather can be different next year the chances of it being miserable cold and snowing are slim. It is basicly centered in the US (east-west). The racers know what tires work and what to prepare for. There is also one new hotel currently under construction and 2 more scheduled to be finished by mid summer 2008 so there will be 5 hotels in town by next november. Also the DFW airport is usually one of the least expensive to fly into from most places.

Once again this year each division has 3 races and the division championships will be determined by the best 2 of 3 in the division.
Also again this year you can score NATIONAL points at any division event. At the end of the year we will take your 2 best races no matter what division they were scored in and this will determine your NATIONAL standings. This frees up all racers to be able to race at any division event.

Hopefully this answers some of the questions about my sanity that normally arise from the new schedule. I realize some people will have complaints and I'm sorry about that but I feel we have the best compromise we can get.

Vehicle Legality Questions

Tue May 15, 2007 6:50PM

I've been asked leading up to each Nitro Offroad event this year "Can we run the Jammin .5 with the Gas Trucks?"
No! Just by the design of the vehicle it isn't fair for them to race against the Gas Trucks especially for points in a national series.

The Gas Truck rules state with the name "1/10 FUEL 2WD OFF-ROAD TRUCK SPECS"
what is legal in the class. A 1/12 4wd drive truck is not legal in that class.

Next question will RC Pro make a class for the .5?
I have driven one and looked at them closely and they ARE really cool and fun. Plus I would love to see them in competition but we can not make a class for something only made by one company. If more companies produce a comparable vehicle we will strongly consider a class for them in 2008.

We have done and will do more exibition races for the .5 at some of our division races as time permits.
